This week, members of the SII team visited Liberty High School as guest speakers to share their journeys and educate students about careers in sport!
Our SPEED Lab Coordinator & Postdoctoral Scholar, Dr. Cordero Roché, and Graduate Assistant, Kelvin Omojola, spoke to Coach William Hemberger’s Sports Leadership class.
Dr. Roché shared his path from working in Major League Baseball to earning his Ph.D. and now leading the UNLV SPEED Lab—where they collaborate with K–12 schools and professional teams including the Vegas Golden Knights, Las Vegas Lights FC, the Las Vegas Desert Dogs, and more.
Kelvin shared his experience as a professional basketball player, emphasizing the importance of perseverance, seizing opportunities, and building strong networks. He also spoke about the value of having a plan beyond the game and how sports can open doors both on and off the court.
A big thank you to Coach Hemberger for inviting Dr. Roché and Kelvin to inspire the next generation of leaders in sport!
